So, I have been accepted to Emory University for this fall. I submitted my deposit and everything is squared away for me to attend there. However, I am now having second thoughts. It will cost me about 40,000 dollars a year and it is very far away from home. I am planning on going to medical school after undergrad. I am a good student and have no doubt that I will succeed wherever I go and I see no reason why I wouldn't be able to go on to medical school no matter where I went for undergrad. I also received a half-scholarship to Santa Clara University. For reasons I won't get into, I don't want to attend there, but if I applied to similar schools for spring admission, could I expect to get similar scholarship/aid? (and is there a difference in admission/aid for spring freshman versus fall freshman?) I am a very strong student, well rounded in all areas, with a very good ACT score. I just think I could go to college for half the cost and still make it to med school, so why is it worth it for me to pay for Emory. Any advice? Thank you.

1) Why did you go to Emory when it costs you 40k out of your pocket? Not a wise decision. (Unless you can afford all that)

2) Different schools, despite having the same admissions statistics, give out different amounts of aid. Only by applying to them can you actually see how generous they are, or if you give us some names and we’ll give you some feedback on their financial policies.

I can’t answer about the spring vs fall question. I honestly don’t know.

I can’t afford all of it. I would probably have big loans. Which is why I am second guessing my decision. And, the schools I would apply to for spring would probably be Gonzaga, LMU, Seattle U, and Seattle Pacific.

If you are planning on going to medical school, it is not worth to go to an undergraduate school that you cannot afford. Go to Santa Clara, work hard to get to the top of the class (should be easier than Emory) and go to medical school.
