<p>I'm hoping to be pass out of taking a language while at Harvard and will be writing the French placement exam. My French is decent (I've been learning French-as-a-second-language since kindegarten, up to grade 11) but I haven't taken French for a full year, so it's quite rusty and I'm worried about not passing the placement exam.</p>
<p>I'd very much appreciate any feedback on the exam, particularly its:
- Difficulty (how much French do you need to know)
- Style (multiple choice?, focused on grammar, vocab - similar to the SAT?)
- "Passing Mark" - What score are students expected to attain (i.e. 90% correct) in order to pass the exam and satisfy the language requiremet?</p>

<p>French is by far my worst subject, and my performance on the SAT subject test was abysmal. (less than 500… yes I’m serious.) I know being skilled in another language is very useful, actually learning the language might be fun, yadda yadda, but I would prefer if it was my choice and not forced upon me.</p>
<p>For students who do not place out of language, I think students can pick their own level. The placement tests just provide guidance.</p>
<p>Many students opt to take a language even if they place out, and most also seemed to take a fairly easy level.</p>
<p>I have heard that the French classes are not hard, include lots of conversation, and can even be fun.</p>
<p>Don’t worry too much about it. If you place out, fine, and if you don’t, that should be fine too.</p>
