Advice on getting loans and such, paying for college as a minor

Yeah so my parents are refusing to pay for college because I don't want to take an internship my dad got me for this summer...is there any way I will be able to get a loan or something to pay for me for college?

Or should I sit in another 2 months of hell and get them to pay for college?

The teenager in me is so sick of being put through everything my parents have put me through. The pros are that I'll be free and able to do whatever I want this summer and being able to move out (I'll be free of the parent constraints!!). The cons are lack of college funding.

Last resort is telling WashU i can't go and going to a community college somewhere far from home.

Pretty complicated subject Leticia. I think you need to make up with your parents and find some compromise.

I assume you have already applied for financial aid and have some sort of answer based on your parents income and savings. Very few colleges will consider aid for an "independent" student whose parents simply do not want to pay. There are exceptions of course, and it never hurts to share your circumstances with the aid office. But generally speaking, they will expect parents to pay what they can afford.

So I think it is time to get back in there with Mom and Dad and straighten it out. Maybe if you found an alternate job they would be more compromising.

What about Sallie Mae Loans? I signed up for a federal stafford loan for the following school year.

I get no money at all because of my parents' income.

I was considering taking a job that I wanted to do, something I'd actually enjoy but again, they won't pay for me that way either.

Take the internship. Down the road, you'd wish you haven't stacked up so much debt/ spent so many hours working.

Sometimes it's hard to leave the high school I can do whatever my heart tells me to mentality. This is the real world, and a lot of people do things that they don't want to.

Hi Leticia. Is the internship really that bad, or is it because your dad arranged it for you?
