Advice on GPA

I just got my GPA from my first semester of college, its a 3.51 at a top ten liberal arts college. I'm thinking of applying to U of Chicago, Georgetown, Rice, Northwestern and Brown (as matches/reaches). Will this GPA, assuming everything else is good, put me in the running?

its a little low but its close enough with what i assume are good stats (since youre at a top ten liberal arts college) to take a shot at those schools.

redchord, if it's not too nosy of me, could you please talk about why you want to transfer? You go to Vassar, right? It's a great school, in my opinion. Thanks.

Your GPA appears a little low for Rice, though the cutoff is 3.2. Perhaps it is negligable due to the cutoff, I am not sure.

Pex: I agree that Vassar is a great place, just not for me. I really like the academic freedom we have here and the campus is really nice However, the atmosphere on campus is, from what I have seen, not very intellectual at all. I am not fitting in to the social climate on campus either, where for the vast majority of people the main social activity is getting smashed out of their mind. Combine this with the fact that I feel stuck and isolated here, and those are the reasons why I am pusuing transferring.

Redchord, thank you for replying. Good luck on your applications. Have a great year! (=
