Hi everyone! I've read through the forum about graduating high school early, but most people are graduating a year or more earlier. I would just like to graduate a semester early. I will be a senior in September, have more than enough credit, and just have the required courses to complete like english. I feel like staying in high school for a whole year more is just a waste of my time. I'm a good student and am ready for college.

I've been researching for quite some time now and have realized many things, advantages and disadvantages of graduating early. For example, if I finish school in one semester, I think the semester would end in January. Since it probably ends in January, that would overlap the starting spring term in college.

Anyways, I think my best bet would be to graduate a semester early and apply to colleges for the fall semester since most scholarships are usually given to incoming fall freshman. I just don't know what is best to do throughout that 6-7 month gap. Should I just work and save? Should I take online courses? Should I go to a communtiy college until then? Do most colleges accept these credits if I do online or community college courses? What do any of you recommend? Are there any other suggestions?

Go to CC for credits. See if they are transferable to the universities you are applying to. During this time, try to go into a research project with a professor in a local CC if you are going into a science. Try to do something that will show dedication as well as passion. This will spark the admission officers’ interest.

Work if you can juggle the responsibility. Don’t waste time!

I appreciate your reply. I am planning on going into business. Maybe I can get a business internship. If I’m lucky, a paid internship until then.

I don’t really get the perks of graduating a semester early. Would you still be able to walk at promotion, or are you just trying to get the free time before the end of the year to yourself?

come on dude, take the extra semester. its not going to hurt. colleges arent going to look at your senior grades for admission. might as well be a time for u to relax a little, go to school events, and what not.

Well, I’ve only been in this high school for less than a year because of moving and could care less about walking at graduation and prom and stuff like that. It’s not like I don’t have friends, but it’s not like I’ve been with these people since the start of high school. I just feel like that extra semester would be a waste of my time when I could be getting ahead.

I see. In that case going to community college for credits would probably be your best bet. However, don’t overload yourself… If you can’t do it, you can’t do it. Don’t try to push yourself too hard and risk your GPA.

My friend graduated 10 weeks early (he had intended to finish earlier but didn’t). He was from Italy, so he went back there for a few months to get piano lessons and just hang out basically.
