Advice on how to meet people?

Alright so this is my first semester at university, I transferred in from a CC and am slightly older than the average college student (i'm 25). I am very shy/fail hard at starting up conversations with people and was basically looking for advice on meeting some people as at my CC I made one or two friends and that was it, and id like things to be different for me.

I'm a commuter which definitely hurts but I really couldnt afford an apartment (my job sucks) I thought about living on campus but wasn't able to decide in time (plus I work 3rd shift which would make that difficult for me, though I dont plan to be on 3rd much longer)

if anyone has any tips/advice id greatly appreciate it!

Your post is a couple of months old so hopefully you have connected with some people by now but I would suggest either getting to class a little early and striking up a conversation with the students sitting near you, you can talk (laugh, complain, criticize) the professor which is something of mutual interest…or catch some students as they leave the room and follow up on the class discussion. If you have a particular interest, look for a club on campus and attend its meetings, even if you don’t meet anyone right away, it will help you to feel involved. If your schedule permits, try to go to a musical or theater performance at the school (which I assume will be free) and talk with the students in the audience during intermission.
Best of luck to you this semester!
