So, there are a few areas I’m interested in starting a career in. These are Law, Political Science, Journalism, Advertising, and maybe Economics. My current plan is to major undergrad in Political Science, take as many classes as I can in the other areas, and see what I like. Is this a good strategy? Also, should I try to find a college that’s moderately strong in all of these, very strong in a few, extremely in one, or what? Thanks!
That’s a fine strategy. Find a college you can afford which allows you the flexibility to try those areas. BTW, Law is a post undergrad degree. You can major in anything before getting your law degree.
I would look for a school where it is easy to change areas…for example, if Advertising (Marketing) was in the BusinessSchool, and you have to apply to get into the business school…then either start with that or choose a school where you can take any type of class.
Find a college that is affordable and a match for you academically and socially. You should have plenty of time to take some intro. level classes in all of your areas of interest and you may find that one or two of the areas taps into your interests and abilities more than the rest. Give yourself time to figure it all out. And agree that there are no prerequisites for law school so you are free to explore areas of interest.
Thanks guys for your advice! On a somewhat related note, I saw on another thread about “sequences” different colleges offer (in this instance, humanities). Can anyone explain to me what that is exactly?
Can you post a link to the thread? That would help us figure out what you’re talking about.
