So far this is my sophomore schedule/schedule options.
mandatory:
Honors business law. (double major to get CTE accredited advanced regents diploma)
Honors english
physical education
Global 3 ( maybe honors)
options:(help me choose)
either Honors trigonometry or regular statistic class
either AP psychology, honors chemistry,or AP biology
This year my extra curriculars include:
debate club (once a week)
medical club (twice a month)
skate boarding club (twice a week)
Possible extracurricular for next year:
Applying for a rigouous Science internship every Tuesday and thursday (I don’t know if i’ll get in yet.)
Plan to volunteer at the local hospital on weekends.
I have applied to(and will most likely get accepted to) a three year scholars program. The first year consists of 6 hours of courses every week.
Oh and I currently have a 4.0 gpa but have been absent 19 times this year.
Advice on my courses and extra curriculars? Thanks every one.
I forgot to add that I also have the option of AP computer programming
Make sure to take a Bio, Chem, and Physics course. Assuming you took bio freshman year, take chem sophomore year.
Honors trig, honors chemistry. Both are core classes and not taking them will reduce the number of colleges you can apply to drastically. And you need a foreign language.
@zbthsjunior I took biology in middle school and earth science this year
@MYOS1634 thanks for the advice from both of you
@MYOS1634 I’m also not able to take a language course because of my business law class. It’s a double period
Except that colleges won’t care about the Business Law class (it’s an elective) but they want to see Level 3 in a foreign language (4 if you’re aiming for selective colleges, 2 if you’re aiming for a directional or not very selective college).
Can you take Physical education over the summer? This would free up a space for Foreign Language.
@MYOS1634 I thought that colleges would be impressed buy my business lass class because it’s enabling me to get an advanced regents diploma? I will see if there is a way to take PE over the summer through an online school.
Colleges would be curious about it
if it doesn’t get in the way of getting your core classes (English, math, foreign language, science, social science).
I second the foreign language advice, much more important
Eliminate the word “impressed” from your vocabulary until you get accepted to college. AOs are not “impressed” by schedules/ECs, etc.
Other than SUNY, colleges will not care about an advanced regents diploma, particularly if it’s achieved at the expense of a core class.
Is it possible to skip trig and go to precalculus at your school? Taking precal and later AP calc is a definite plus for colleges. Trig is also pretty useless considering that precal is just trig, alg, and geo.
@bugaddict i’ll find that out tomorrow and let you know.
Also my school does not offer summer school for people who aren’t failing @MYOS1634 and @theinvokingsyndicate
what can i do?
If you really want to, I’m pretty sure you can take online courses over the summer.
Ask your GC if you can take Phys Ed over the summer since you need one more foreign language class to be competitive for selective colleges and Business Law takes two periods.
okay i’ll look into online gym classes for the summer.
