Advice on my transfer essay please

So basically, i told myself that i'd try really hard, get good grades, then transfer to nyu after a year. MUCH easier said, then done. Well, I just got my grades and i managed to mess it up. i got a 3.25 which is horrendous and i know i can do better. I still have hope so i still plan on applying but i just had a question. Do you guys think it's wise to write in my essay that my grades don't reflect my true academic potential because i messed up in some of my classes or would that just make me seem really weak and stupid?

thanks guys

3.25 is not horrendous. It is still above the minimum requirement for many schools.

If you have really good reasons why your grades were low, such as working full-time while studying or managing a business or fighting cancer, by all means, write about that in the essays - adcoms would like to know.

If your reason is just that you messed up, don’t mention that, because messing up is precisely what reflects on academic potential, and arguments to the contrary would just look silly in your essays.

ahh ok thanks a lot. i just think that a 3.25 is way too low for nyu cas but it never hurts to try
