I scored 800 on Math 2, 730 on Chem, and 650 on Lit. I'm interested in applying to engineering at Stanford, Northwestern, Duke, and Wash U in St. Louis.

I have to send all scores to Stanford. Should I retake Lit? (I didn't prep for Lit at all -- dumb, I know.)

I made a 760 on CR, 790 on W, and 740 on M on SAT I. I made a 35 on ACT with 36 in math, 36 in science, 34 in Eng and 33 in Reading.

You do not have to report all SAT IIs for Stanford.

Really! I thought Stanford was a “report all scores” school. Anyway, do you think since I’m interested in engineering, I should just report Math 2 and Chem (and omit Lit)?

I might encourage you to retake it since your SAT I CR and W scores were good. Even if they see all the scores, they’ll see that you were determined to improve and hopefully, you’ll get a better score with studying. The lit is hard, no question about it, but I think if you search this forum, you’ll find the post (I think it’s silverturtle?) regarding getting an 800 on the lit.

My son took the Math II in 8th grade and got a 760. We felt he needed to retake it since he’s applying to some top colleges and he’ll probably be a math or physics major. He retook in May and got his 800.

He took the Lit test in January and got a 730. We have discussed his retaking it as he’ll be taking the chem SAT II in October and so could retake the Lit then, too. It’s a really tough call because it’s possible he could do worse but it would be nice to have a 750+. His scores as they stand now are Math II 800, physics 800, Lit 730. Hopefully, he’ll get an 800 on the chem but he’s got to study hard this summer.

Long winded way of saying it might not be a bad idea to retake if you think you’ll do better.
