Advice on sending SAT and ACT scores and retakes

I was not happy with my SAT (2020: 690M, 680 CR, 650 W, 8E) so I'm planning on retaking
My ACT I had a 29C on first try and improved to 31C: 30 E, 31 M, 32 R, 31 S, 9E
I'll probably retake it as well

Now I wanted to apply ED somewhere but will it be too late to send in my new scores on the SAT since the test date is on October 10, 2009 and it takes like almost a month for scores?
September 13, 2008 is ACT so I should be fine I think if I retake
Ill be taking subject tests this upcoming weekend*

Now if I were to just go ahead and send these scores which one is better?

and If I improve my SAT what should I do
these were my thoughts

if SAT is less than 2100 ill send in ACT
if SAT is 2100-2150 ill send in both
if SAT is 2150+ ill send in only SAT

is that ok or do yall recommend a better range or something different(keeping in mind my SAT scores for each range are widely the same and not to different)

I also heard there is a new rule where you have to send in all your scores. Is that true and is it just SAT or ACT as well. Although you can send them all with SAT for the ACT Id have to pay multiple fees. Would it look bad for me to retake ACT a third time?

First of all, colleges will definitely take the October SAT, worst case scenario, you can rush your scores.

For your question about sending scores, make sure you know which of your schools use SAT Score choice, which allows you to send only the scores that you want to send, but many schools require that you write down all of the tests that you have taken.

Sorry to bother, but is it true that if you take the test again, you can take the higher scores from the two tests and combine them?

OCmom - That’s called “superscoring” and it is something many colleges will do for the SAT but not the ACT. If you want the college to be able to superscore, you need to send all available SAT reasoning scores, and they will take the best score on each of the 3 sections. In other words, the students doesn’t select the best subscores, but sends them all, and the college sorts through the numbers.

OP, I concur that you need to see what your intended college list looks like in terms of score choice. If a college has not opted out of choice, then they’ll never know how many times you took the ACT or SAT. That said, it’s a lot of testing! Do you have a feeling that one or the other test just works better for you? If so, I’d focus on that one, and prep hard for it. Have you maxed out on bumping up the ACT because you studied hard twice already? Right now, your ACT score is slightly better than your SAT, but which one allows you personally the most room for improvement if you retake?

I feel so bad for saying this but I didn’t really study for either one.
Personally I like the ACT more but since it would be my third try I don’t know how much more I could improve, though if I study I think I could.
Having only taken the SAT once I definitely know I could improve, especially with studying, even if only in 1 section to help my overall superscore.

FauxNom, thanks for posting a reply. I forgot to come back in here and check. Right now she has schools working on offers for her, so we are waiting to see if she needs to take the SAT’s again or not. Not sure if she needs to take the ACT either. May just sign her up to do that. Better safe than sorry.

Is there a list of colleges that superscore and ones that don’t? Ones that require all tests be provided and ones that allow you to designate a certain test date?

OC : you don’t need to send both SAT and ACT it’s an either or. I took both the SAT and the ACT’s and my ACT’s were better so I’m not sending in either of my SAT scores
