My GPA was weak my first two years of high schools, I'm talking 3.3 UW with honors classes Freshmen year, 2.9 Soft., but Junior year I did some work and got around a 3.5-3.8 throughout the year with 2 APs ( got 2 5s).. not to mention I got a 1340 on my SAT and an 800 World History, 800 U.S. History.

I really want to go to George Washington Elliott, I'm very political and foreign affairs interested, even when I was a slacker I would still read the Economist religiously :)

So my question is should I apply ED2, where only my first quarter grades will be seen ?(i plan to try and get a 4.0 with a heavy courseload)

or is it better to apply RD and show 2 quarters of close to 4.0ness?

ED1 is before my first quarter grades are in, becuase my school ends in almost July and doesnt start till almost Mid-Sept.

I suggest you apply ED if you're sure you want to attend GW. ED gives you a huge advantage over RD at GW. They like to see sincere interest.

The downside to ED 2 is that the acceptance rate for ED 2 is lower than ED 1, so unless you are absolutely certain your grades will go up I would advise you to apply ED 1 if you want to go ED.

I was in a similar situation. I was certain my grades would go up 1st semester senior year and took all AP classes 1st semester because I was borderline at a lot of schools and I felt that getting all A's in 6 AP courses would help me.

Taking 6 AP classes at the same time, along with a job, internship, and editor position on the newspaper caused me to stay up till 4 AM or later literally everyday. I didn't have time to study and I got C's in classes that I would normally get an A in. It was a disaster and really hurt me at schools that saw my 1st semester grades. My GPA sunk by .4 and my class rank went from top 15% to top 35%.

In short...

ED 1 if you are not sure your grades will go up

ED 2 if you are sure your grades would go up

Don't go RD as it does not show as much genuine interest, which is especially important if your stats are borderline

Thanks ill take your advice to heart. Do you mind listing some of your stats, you applied ED2 too right? And to what school in GW?

Thanks

ED1 for sure. It is much easier than RD. Is there any hook that you can make up last minute??? For Elliott I think they like it if you take some big initiative. Perhaps consider becoming a voter registrar and take about the importance of voting in your essay. OR work on some political campaign or advocacy group that you are very interested in...
I think doing something like that and applying ED will make you a more competative applicant. Also.. since school ended so late where you are from.. is there any chance that you could take any college courses before school starts? Perhaps an International Relations class? If you got an A in that it would also help your application.

also write a letter about why your gpa went down sophmore year.

Measure thanks a lot for your through reply i really appreciate it.
I'm in Westchester County just north of NYC, a public school
I'm have worked on someones campaign for NY State Attorney General just for a few weeks, total of maybe 20 hours, I also started working for Spitzer for Governor and already clocked in some volunteer hours and met with some officals, I also might work on another smaller politicans campaign, in which i would work in close contact with the actual official, so im sure that'll all show my passion and look good for Elliott.

As for college courses, I took a CTY course in 9th-10th grade but thats about it, im doing an internship at a city hospital, its not my field of study but it interests me and my family is full of doctors so I used some connections shamelessly to get the internship

I'll consider writing a political-like essay, but im also an avid creative writer so I don't want to luck myself into something like that.

I do have some excuse for my GPA drop, but im not sure how to phrase the letter or how long it should be etc. i'll have to ask my gc about that
