I'm currently a senior, and I realize starting a club in February of senior year is most likely (read: definitely) ill-advised, and I also know it does nothing for my college admissions. However, I've run out of options. I made a commitment with a nonprofit to help raise awareness of various global issues, organize fundraisers, etc. but despite my best efforts, I've run into innumerable difficulties due to a lack of consistent volunteers.

After taking a step back and analyzing the situation, I've realized everything could be simplified by starting a club. (I won't list every advantage here because it would take too much space.) Even though starting one in February would be difficult, I really want to honor my commitment...which is why I'm asking CCers for advice.

I don't think I'll have any trouble running/managing the club, and I already have a sponsor, but I really have no clue how to start a club. My main concern is publicity. My school has 3500+ students, and it is -hard- to get news and announcements out to people. I know there will be people interested in the club, but to be interested, they'd have to know about it in the first place.

How can I convince people to commit time to this club? I plan on targeting freshmen and sophomores, because I know seniors have been hit by senioritis, and juniors are pretty busy, too. But I'm sure there are things I haven't thought about.

I'd appreciate any and all pointers/tips/advice--anything that you believe would help me or that I should think about before I launch this.
