Advice on taking AP classes

I'm going to be a Junior this coming school year. I took Honors English in both 9th and 10th grade. For Junior year I wanted to start taking AP classes. So far I'm planning on taking AP Language and Composition, Pre Ap Pre-Calculus, and AP Biology.
I'm wondering if I should also take AP U.S. History just so I have more AP classes. I'm wondering if it'll be too much work and stress me out too badly. I only take six classes at my school. Any other advice on either of these classes?
Any info. is welcome!
Thanks!

Don’t take AP U.S. History JUST so you have more AP classes.

That said, do take AP U.S. History. The class is rigorous, but in-depth knowledge about American history is invaluable in becoming an educated citizen. Also, you will touch on a lot of interesting subjects in the process. You’ve been taking Honors English for two years, so perhaps you would enjoy studying American literary movements. :)

I agree. AP US History is very rigorous, but maybe thats just my teacher who purposely made the tests so people were high fiving each other when they got C’s. And this is an AP class where C’s might as well be F’s. Language and Comp isn’t challenging at all, busy work (for my class at least), but not challenging. I got a 4 on the test and didn’t even study. I’d say if you’re up for the challenge, take it. I had the same schedule as you last year, minus the AP bio and plus APUSH. Sure, there are going to be late nights and coffee and maybe even some tears, but in the end it’s worth it :)

I was also wondering the same question, is it that hard?

If you’re good in the sciences, I would recommend AP Bio, it’s extremely intense and at my school its actually considered one of the most rigorous, on the other hand I found APUSH very easy, if you have a good record with history classes, I would definitely recommend. but whatever you do, DO YOUR READING

I definitely recommend APUSH. I found it to be the easiest of my AP’s (Calc, Lang, Physics, APUSH) but that’s probably just because I’m really interested in the material. But if you have even a little bit of interest, I still recommend taking it. I know for a fact that my friend regretted not taking it even though she’s not a big fan of history. Her regular class was way too easy and boring. Even though this year was challenging for me, I still found it extremely fulfilling and I learned a ton. Plus I found my Lang and APUSH classes to overlap and it was nice knowing that extra background knowledge because of the other class.

I took AP Lang and APUSH last year (but not AP Bio, taking that this year along with 3 other APs) and found it easily doable… AP Lang was easy, did nothing in class, made an A, did no prep for the exam, made a 5. APUSH was somewhat labor intensive, mainly because there’s just a lot of material to deal with… I didn’t really study and I got an A in the class and a 4 on the exam (multiple choice was hard, essays were easy). So I’d say it’s easily doable, but don’t take the class just to take more APs… Take it if you like history.

Just a warning: in my school the “advanced” US history course was mainly just coloring and word searches, they had a lot of busy work…if there are two things I hate its busy work and word searches. Our APUSH teacher (and most of my other favorite AP classes) only had tests and quizzes, no worksheets or busy work, class time was spent lecturing, and you are expected to read and do review material on your own time. That being said some of them will give you some websites that you can take practice exams on, I’ve never used them myself but I’ve heard they can be helpful if you’re having difficulties.

If you do decide to take APUSH (or any AP class for that matter), a great study tool are the 5 steps to a 5 books. My APUSH teacher sucked, I learned more from reading that book in a week than I did the entire week. If you thoroughly read the book, you will pass the test, probably with a 4 or 5. Best 5 dollars I ever spent. APUSH was definitely the easiest of my AP tests (Eng Lang, Eng Lit, APUSH, Spanish Lang)

*I learned mroe from reading the book in a week, than I did the entire YEAR.

Sorry, typo. That’s what you get for doing homework and internet at the same time. :)

Luckily I had a good AP teacher, but he had a knack for not covering the reading in his lectures for the chapter quizzes, and thus it had to be read, he made sure to cover everything for the unit tests though, I did well on both, and I have a feeling he deliberately didnt cover the quiz info to force us to read, they weren’t particularly hard but you had to read the book to know it.

^Haha we didn’t really cover any test/quiz material in class. We just discussed opposing viewpoints in history and how current events relate to course topics. It was great.

In class we deduced that America was kind of a jerk for refusing to pay Britain back for the war they fought to protect us, our teacher rather agreed, I live in a very conservative area so it had to be one of the best days I’ve ever had in school XD

In MY class we deduced that after Aaron Burr shot Hamilton, he ran off to Mexico to become the chupacabra…=P
