I am a sophomore and I am working on my course selections for junior year. I will take seven classes in all and five of them can be AP classes.
AP options:
US History
Spanish
Calculus
English
Chemistry or Physics (you have to take the other senior year)
Right now I really want to take Spanish and English as APs. I was wondering how manageable taking all these classes together would be and if you think they would be worth the work. If I had to only take a few, which ones are the best to drop and take as honors classes? I’m currently interested in Architecture and environmental science as careers, but this could change within a year. I took AP world history freshman year and AP government this year. Both I did well in and had great experiences with.
If you don’t LOVE chemistry…and need it for your major…I would take it off with calculus and APUSH. Those are demanding. If you are a good time manager ( I am not) then you would probably be ok. I heard take Physics and Calculus in the same year is good. who knows.
Is it AP spanish lit or lang? Either way, you need to be practically fluent in spanish, and be able to speak, understand (even when it’s bad quality recordings - they like to do that to try to mess you up on the AP exam lol), write, and read it.
Don’t have much advice for the other classes, as I haven’t taken them, but I’m taking ap physics, USH, and Lang next year so we can suffer together lol
I’m a junior currently taking 5 APs as well:
Calc BC
Comp Sci
Lang
Bio
World
Although workload for classes differ from every school, I’ve noticed that 5 AP classes is manageable. When I was a sophomore I posted on College Confidential asking if doing 5 was too much (look at my threads), worrying that I would feel too stressed. However, I noticed that it’s really not too bad, especially if your the type of student that has consistently gotten As. I will admit though, it gets pretty stressful mid-year when you need to start thinking about SAT/ACT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Tests…Good luck and let me know what you decide.
A lot of people think that AP Physics C is the hardest AP class and it’s a suicide mission to take it.
I ended up taking four APs: Spanish, US history, calc, and lang. I had originally planned to take ap chem as well, and was accepted into the class, but backed out over the summer due to nerves and a dislike for chemistry.
How is your Spanish so far? Mine doesn’t seem to hard but the teacher said today we are significantly better than last year’s class.
