Advice on Transferring after being suspended

Hello,
I need some advice about my situation. I just finished my 2nd year of college at a 4-year university and have been placed on disciplinary suspension for the Fall 2017 semester due to problems with the law (non violent). This is my first offense ever and have never been in any sort of trouble I just made a stupid mistake and now I’m paying for it. I have felt awful about myself for almost two months since this incident occurred and am looking for a fresh start.

I think I want to transfer schools, but I don’t know what my chances of being accepted are due to this situation. I have always been a very good student (3.6 GPA in Industrial Engineering at my school) (3 out of 4 semesters on the dean’s/chancellor’s list). I just want to get some opinions about what my chances would be of being accepted into a moderately selective school such as Northeastern, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, NJIT, etc. and possibly more selective schools such as Cornell. The reason I ask about these selective schools is because if the transfer isn’t to a better school it doesn’t make much sense. My current school is not very selective and is ranked about 90-100 for my degree program(Ind Eng). I know it makes more financial sense to stay where I am, but I feel that it would be best for myself to get a fresh start somewhere else. I know that this mistake doesn’t define who I am, but I know its going to be hard to convince other college admission offices that. Thank you for any advice and information.

First off, are you talking about transferring for Fall 2017? If so, I think it’s too late for most if not all of the schools you’ve mentioned. Deadline for VT was Feb 15, and they don’t do spring transfers. Looks like GT does take spring transfers. You’ll want to check the website for each school and see when they admit transfers and their deadlines.

No idea if the disciplinary issue will be a problem. Hope others can comment on that

It would be for Spring or Fall 2018

NJIT isn’t on the same level as any of the other universities you mentioned.

Hope things worked out for you. Wondering if you ended up transferring and if so how your conduct record affected your admission.
