Advice on trumpet lyre?

I posted this in the parents' forum, and someone suggested posting here as well.

S2 needs to have a lyre for his trumpet (music holder that clamps onto his trumpet). I've been looking on Amazon, which carries a number of them, but the reviews are mixed - certain models don't stay on well, scratch the trumpet, are too heavy, etc. There are different kinds, that attach differently, and I have no idea how to choose one.

He has a silver Getzen professional trumpet, if that matters.

Does anyone know about lyres?

I think my son had one that strapped around one of his wrists. He did NOT want to have it hooked to his trumpet.

For marching, we had an old student trumpet DS used. He never carried his professional level trumpet when marching…but that is a whole other discussion!

My son has only his pro trumpet. We waited far too long to buy one, and rented for about 6 years. So we never bought a student trumpet. Mistake.

Renting a student trumpet is quite cheap, relative to renting a woodwood. I recommend you rent a trumpet for the few months of marching band.

Post this in the “Other Toys” thread at trumpetherald.com. You will get a ton of good advice.
