Hi, I was wondering if any of your daughters/sons has done a term at other school. I'm majoring in history and minoring in art history. I saw that Smith College lets other students come to their campus either for a half or whole year, and I've heard that Smith has an excellent history and art history department, and I just want to take advantage of it and to, well, take a break from campus.

You would first have to check with your home institution. Some schools do have formal exchange programs where you would be able to take classes at another college for a term. If there is no formal program, you would still have to get permission from both schools ; to be a visiting student at Smith, and to you will need to make sure that your home institution will transfer those credits toward your degree.

I'm a Smithie who applied to do the Twelve College Exchange at Wesleyan, but decided not to go. If you attend one of the other schools that participate in the exchange, it's an incredibly easy application.

Otherwise, you'd probably have to take a leave of absence at your regular school and apply to Smith as a visiting student. As sybbie said, check with your school about its specific policies regarding studying elsewhere and the transfer of credits.

Thank you!
