Hey guys. I have a question on when I should take subject tests. Next year I'll be taking APUSH and Physics B along with 2 other AP classes. I'll also be taking Precalc Honors. I'm planning on taking the subject tests for USH, Physics , and Math II sometime next year.

My question is if I should take the History and Physics exams during the May administration to get it over with [around the same time as the AP exams], or wait till June to avoid too much stress? How similar is preparing for those APs with preparing for those SAT2s?

Also, do you guys recommend that I take the Math II in June after the precalc class is basically over, or take it sometime earlier in the year [using a prep book like Barron's]?

Thanks so much! :)

I took the USH AP test and the USH SAT test within the same week. I think the SAT II was on Saturday and the AP was the next Friday.
I would recommend doing it in May. I know people who took it in June who really regretted it because they had to study for it through finals and whatnot, but me I just dumped all that knowledge out after the AP test.
I got a 720 on the SAT II which was really good for me, but I only got a 3 on the AP test… In case you were wondering.

Thanks for the advice. I think that’s what I’ll do with USH since I would rather just get the two exams over near the same time.

Any suggestions on Physics/ Math II?

I can’t really help with either, I took the Math II one and all I can say is take practice tests.
I took my SAT II’s in May and the regular SAT in March (and in June), and I got an 800 on the math section in March. So I was feeling really cocky about the test and didn’t study at all. When I was taking it I breezed through the first 30 and then ended up skipping about 5 or so… I definitely did not pace myself right.

Thanks strosfan!

Does anybody know if the AP Physics B is good enough for a 700+ on the SAT2 Physics [if i study of course]

Yeah, it’s fine. Got a 770 with minimal post-AP study (took it in June). There are a few extra concepts on the SAT, but they should be pretty simple to grasp, and the math on the SAT is much easier.
Math II? After precalc, it should be a piece of cake even without much study. Problems that require formulae are few and if you’re strong at everything else you could skip them and still make 800. I say wait until May/June to take it.
