So, we’re going to visit on the 28th thru the 30th. Seeing “Cabaret” on the 29th!

I found some hotel suggestions on the master Webster thread, but I thought I’d ask if there might be any updates to that info. oh, we are renting a car btw, so we’re not tied to staying close to the University. Thanks!

We don’t have a whole lot of time to spend, so any suggestions as to what’s a “don’t miss” would be great too. you know… what to snoop around and see, restaurants, etc. Some advice regarding downtown could come in handy!

I’m a big Hampton Inn fan (free breakfast and always comfortable). There is one in Kirkwood and one by the Galleria. If you mention you are coming to visit Webster, they will give you an additional discount. Enjoy, Webster Groves is a beautiful community.

I ditto SEATA…that is where we always stayed. Conveniently next to restaurants and Target (just in case you need something). Lots of restaurants near campus as well…and if you can get up to ‘The Hill’ there are some fabulous Italian restaurants. Have fun!! :)

I’m planning on flying out there by myself and was wondering if I will get enough of a feel of the school just by going to the campus, sitting in on classes, and watching Cabaret? I was thinking about renting a car as well, but if things are mostly close to the campus, do you think I will get enough of an experience of what Webster is like or should I check out the areas around as well and also the city of St. Louis?

Bird, we’ll be renting a car to peruse the different areas. We’re arriving on Tues, the 28th, in the afternoon and leaving early evening on the 30th. D’s shadowing a conservatory student on the 29th and seeing “Cabaret” that night. We’ll have Tuesday late afternoon and evening plus Thursday day to look around.

Unless, you’d rather be by yourself, which I’d totally understand, you’re welcome to tag along at some point. That is if we’re going there at the same time. Think about it… let me know whenever. We’ll be there regardless. :-)

oh… not sure if going all around the town really matters in the end…
D believes she’ll know right away whether it feels “right”. We’ll see. ;-)

We have stayed in several different places. We usually rent a car as well and have stayed near Forest Park and downtown, as well as the Southwest Viking Holiday Inn. I have also stayed at the Sheraton near Clayton. My favorite by far are the two hotels downtown. We stayed at the Weston and the Hilton. I got the Downtown hotels on priceline by putting that I only wanted the highest star rating of downtown hotels and i think I paid about $85.00. They are beautiful hotels and right near the ballpark and the arch. We always go to the City Museum downtown, it is so much fun and very different, however if there is a thunderstorm they will close the outside part. We also love to go to the loop and check out the restaurants there, Sue already told you about the italian Restaurants on “the Hill.”

If you want to stay in the Webster area, old Webster groves is a beautiful city and some good restaurants. We like to have breakfast at First Watch in Webster. There are some great record/cd stores and a fruit stand near campus too.

The zoo in Forest Park is great and free!

To get a realistic look at what life is like I ask the students and not just freshman. I think most of them will tell you that they stay so busy they don’t make it out of the Webster Groves area too often. When my D gets a chance she goes to the City Museum, the Zoo, and the mall. It’s difficult to go too many places without a car and she didn’t have one until Junior year and she survived.

I hope this helps. PM me it you want more info.
I will be there on the 2nd. Sorry I’m going to miss you all but say hi to my D for me! She’s in Cabaret.

After “Cabaret” go to Cyrano’s for great desserts…oh yum!! It was a tradition with us, and many others do the same. Marianne has a gift for making the most of a trip…her advice is priceless. Breakfasts at First Watch are fabulous!! Everything is fresh. Enjoy!!
