I have been selected for material sciences at GIK institute and Software engineering at Bahria University. I personally prefer Software but people said that you wont be able to find a job from such a uni because of low ranking. Can someone please advise?
Now here’s an interesting question. If I were in your position, I’d take a gap year to learn some compsci languages to be honest. However, if you must make a decision, I’d say go to Bahria if you are sure that you love software. If you truly love it, you should be able to excel and demonstrate your mastery. A high GPA should be able to catch any employer’s eye imo.
I wouldn’t advise you to join Bahria because I know some people who are studying there and are not satisfied by the quality of education. In every degree, teachers play the most important role. If you don’t get good teachers, you’d simply lose interest in that subject no matter how passionate you are about it. Keep in mind SE is a field which you can learn solely on internet and there are plenty of Open Coursewares available but university grooming is really important. Also, yes companies do consider the uni’s name but it’s not a major factor in the final decision. In CS/SE, it all depends on your practical skills (70%), GPA (25%) and University name (5%). These are rough figures, by the way.
It’s upto you now, if you are PASSIONATE about SE then take a gap year like Alto said and apply to better universities next year or if you just LIKE software engr then I’d suggest you join GIKI. Material Sciences is a great field too!
^ Great answer. Wish I could go back in time and amend mine xD
