Advice please-taking SAT only once???

This was my first time posting in the parents forum for advice and I want to thank you all. The advice was terrific and thank you again.

Newstudentmom - may I ask how much higher was your daughter’s SAT score? For other kids in her school who got into Cornell, were the ranges around your daughter’s? If I may ask, did she have legacy? From what I could see from the seniors this year at my son’s high school, a good portion of the early decision kids had legacy at Cornell and UPenn.

Also, does anyone know if admissions look at AP scores in evaluating applications? I know they look at SAT and subject test (good point about him concentrating on that now), but what about AP.

What happens if are taking AP class and don’t do well on exam. Do you self-report?

Thank you all again for your wonderful advice!

On the Collegeboard website by the scores there should be something that tells you how many people with his score scored higher on a retake. That could be a good guide. For me, they said that there was a 90% chance I would score LOWER on a retake, so I one-and-done’d it.

You son did great.
Instead of taking SAT again, consider the ACT. My son did that. Similar to your son on SAT and did phenomenal on ACT. Then you can send either SAT or ACT!!

If he is serious about going to the best school, take it as many times as it takes to break 2310

orcaaa must be a relative or an investor of the collegeboard ;)

I knew a kid who got a 780 in his math and he was determined to get 800. He also got a 750 in CR and “of course” wanted higher. That second time, he also went up in CR, to 780. By having two good scoring tests, it will show he is consistent.

I think they look at AP scores, self-reported in the honors section of the Common App. If a kid has As in a number of AP courses but 1s and 2s on the tests, it says something about the rigor of the courses.
