Advice please

I accepted my admission at UC Davis and have to figure out my roommates by August 1, but UW, the other school I applied to doesn't finish sending out admission letters until July 31 (they just started this month). What should I do? I would hate to back out last minute on room mates, but UW is my first choice.

These types of situations happen all the time. Until you hear otherwise, you are attending UC Davis, so plan accordingly and figure out your roommate situation now (otherwise you may get stuck with a roommate you do not want). If UW takes you off the waitlist, you make apologies to your roommates and move forward in that direction when it happens.

When my D was an incoming freshman, she was told she would be sharing a room with two other students. She contacted them over the summer and established a pleasant relationship with both. Neither showed up, nor did they offer any explanations, though she heard one had encountered financial difficulties that precluded her attendance. D ended up with two different roommates whose names she learned on move-in day. Stuff happens, and none of it will mean anything within a week after classes begin, so do what you have to do and don’t worry about the roommates.
