The only time that I have heard of PSATs being administered is during the fall. I would take the PSATs during the fall to give you practice for the real SAT reasoning test.

You're a sophomore this year right?
I would recommend taking the PSATs this year, just for practice and to get an idea of what you need to work on before it actually counts for NMSQT.
the PSAT is only in october, but you could also consider taking the SAT for practice in the spring.

start with the collegeboard website www.collegeboard.com, if you don't already have an account there, make one. do their online practice tests, and then buy a couple books. At least get the college boards offical SAT book, I don't know if you need to get a seperate book for the PSAT though. Also go to your schools guidance office and get a copy of the PSAT practice test.
