Advice wanted. low previous college GPA

Hi,

I attended UIUC as Chem E. for 3 semesters and I was suspended and eventually dropped with GPA of 0.25.

Since then, I have been attending a community college where I studied very hard to get GPA of 3.91. I took all Calc courses, Calc-based Physics, Chemistry, and many general education courses. I have recently finished 51 semester credits. I was optimistic as I thought colleges would look at my drastic improvement as a consideration for transfer.

Yet, I have been recently rejected by UW-Madison. I feel like there is no hope any more even with drastic improvement at a community college. I do not know what I can do more to transfer to a decent engineering school (ECE major). I was thinking Georgia Tech and Purdue for my next choices but considering UWM rejected me already, I feel like these two Universities are likely going to reject me as well.

Is everything lost? What can I do to improve my chances?

Look into lower ranked schools such as RPI. Are you full paying or need aids?

I will be most likely paying in full

While the terrible GPA at the first school is difficult for admission folks to stomach, I feel that the 3.91 and course load should show that you’ve moved-on from whatever happened at UIUC. In your admission essays I’d recommend acknowledging the problem you had at UIUC and describe how you’ve grown and learned from the experience and are on track to take school seriously.

You might as well still try for GT and Purdue!

You never said why you got kicked out of UIUC. Drugs or just low grades?

Ask for readmission at UIUC.

You can try to appeal your decision at UW-Masison.

Or apply to more schools.
