Advice Wanted - regarding W's and GPA :)

Hello everyone! I'm in a bit of a jam and would really appreciate it if I could get some guidance on what to do next. My predicament is that last semester I took a class in Symbolic Logic (which also happens to be a major prep). Well, it was a hard subject and the Professor was not very good at teaching it, so I had no choice but to drop it. In order to make up for the 'W' that I received, I decided to take it again this semester. Everything was ok until recently, when we had our 3rd exam. It was pretty difficult and I just know that I didn't do very well on it. The problem is that the Professor's grading scale is lousy and even though she'll give us extra credit, there is no guarentee that it'll be enough to get me an A or a B in the class...

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is whether or not I should just stick it out and hope for the best or drop it in order to spare my GPA which is currently around a 3.7. While dropping the class seems beneficial, it would also be a pain in the butt because I already dropped it last semester. I'm worried that this will look bad to UCLA (my school of choice). So, which is the lesser of two evils - getting my second "W" in a row, or taking a hit to my GPA?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

hmmm, my first response was take the W, but if would look pretty bad if u dropped the same class, which happens to be a major pre-req twice, what chance do u have at getting the A or B??

do not drop it, study study study!

over the course of four years, i racked up

5 F’s

1 D

8 W’s

2 of the W’s were in a History Class (Western Civ.), but the 3rd time around, i got an A.
the rest of the insufficient grades were retaken –> A’s and a B.
however, none of the insufficient grades / W’s were in any of my major prereqs.

i’m a phil major (seems like you might be, too), and i got into UCLA, where i’ll be attending in the fall.

i would think that if you were to drop this course, you damn well better get an A next time, or they’ll know something is up.

also, a ‘C’ craps all over your GPA.
i’d avoid one at all costs.
if anything, i feel like i’m living proof that life goes on after a few W’s.
good luck.

i had 1 C and 9or 10W’s and got into UCLA

I have 11 Ws and 1 D on my transcript and I got into both UCLA and Cal.

The D is from 1999 and I repeated the course with an A last fall.
9 of the Ws are from more than 3 years ago, most of them occuring 5-10 years ago; I’ve only received 2 Ws since 2006.

I think that both schools were able to recognize that I really cleaned up my act and they still want me. In short, a couple Ws aren’t the end of the world if you have a lot to offer otherwise. If you DO drop it, it is crucial that when you take it again, you really put everything you’ve got into it and get the A next time. JMHO.

all of you above me: what are u guys majoring in though…like for instance im majoring in econ/biz econ/ biz admin…and i know u damn well cant get into any of those at Cal or UCLA with that many Ws or D/Fs
