I took the May SAT and want to retake it. However, I cannot take it this week on June 2nd because I am not prepared enough.

I also need to take 2 SAT IIs, but I would rather not take them this week, because I would need to do standby-testing (in addition to having to cram), which isn't even guaranteed. The only other dates are October and November for SAT tests.

Problem: I am applying to some combined programs (like HPME) and also early action to a few schools (application needed by November 1)--in addition, the UC system schools, a few of which I am also applying to, need applications by November 30.

UCs take through the December test for SAT II and SAT, as well as ACT. You have to ensure that the official scores get into the UCs by the end of January for consideration. Because Collegeboard tends to lose exams or send corrupted disks to the UCs, you need to keep checking your application to make sure that they get posted on time. And don't leave it until the last minute!

So can the test scores be sent in after the November 30th deadline? Is November 30th even the deadline? My school website says November 30th for the University of California schools; I tried looking for the deadline online but couldn't find a confirmation of the November 30th deadline (something about how the fall 2008 application period has not started).

The Nov. 30th "deadline" is the deadline for submitting your UC application ONLY and paying the application fee. (Don't wait until the last minute either -- remember Murphy's Law!)

The UC website says or will explain that you can take all SATs & the ACT through December following submission of the application. You include in the application all tests that you have already taken and all tests that you PLAN to take. Also, you provide a list of all of the courses you have taken, with the grade given, and all of the courses you are taking in fall and all of the courses you intend to take in the spring. You do NOT submit high school transcripts. At the time you submit the application, you also do NOT submit any of your SAT or ACT scores -- you simply let them know what scores you have received from the scores you already have and want them to receive. SAT and ACT send those scores directly to the UC at your direction.

UC asks that all SAT and ACT results be turned in by the end of January for consideration. Sometimes that just doesn't work out because of the lost tests, etc.. If that happens, you need to contact the UC immediately and let them know the SAT or ACT will be delayed. UC Riverside, for example, this past year started notifying applicants of their admission on Feb. 1st. They can't notify you if they don't have all of the information in. UCSC, UC Davis, and UCSB this past year notified applicants on March 15th. That's why it's important to get those scores, especially if they are better than your earlier ones, in asap.

The UC 2008 application will go online on November 1st for submission. The period in which to apply closes at midnight (PST) November 30th.

Suggestion -- don't cram everything together. Space the exams out monthly.
