don't join clubs for the sake of joining clubs.
find something you're passionate about.
don't freak out if there's an obstacle in the way... a bad test score, bad day at school, etc. is something you need to overcome.
believe in yourself!

oh yeah, and make sure you think REALISTICALLY about colleges. i have friends who had all their hearts set on Yale/Harvard/Princeton (and only applied to those schools) and didn't think about other worthy schools (Uva, Berk, northwestern, umich, some public ivies, etc.) and ended up at their safety school

TAKE THE HARDEST CLASSES YOU CAN... I can't stress that enough if you want to attend an Ivy or a top university (Duke, Georgetown, Rice, MIT).

dont put school before friends or friends before school. try to find a balance because otherwise you will go crazy.

dont get into drama. its really not worth it. teenage boys and girls [especially girls] seem to love to create drama and problems...and its really a waste of time. i learned that the hard way.

take more advanced classes earlier so u can either relax a lil bit more while applying for college or take more challenging classes as senior

Don't move out of a prestigious high school that gets lots of Ivy acceptances. You might be able to be a more high-profile, higher-ranked student at the less prestigious high school, but it still helps more to go to that special private. I just learned that the hard way in the college admissions process.

Be pushy, get your parents involved, do anything to make sure you take the hardest classes and the most advanced classes.

Retake the SAT as many times as you can to get the highest score possible. Retake that 2300 to get that 2400. A 2400 is irreplaceable.

All this advice is backed up by experience and the words of admissions officers,

it takes more then grades to get in

I hope you are wrong because I really dont want to retake my 2300. BTW, is 2300 good enough 4 berkeley?

Uh, this is from one of the admissions officers at MIT -

In most cases we do not distinguish between a 2400 and a 2250. The exception would be a breakdown of 800/800/650 with the 650 being in math; obviously we'll consider if the 150 point difference is entirely in one of the three scores. But we don't distinguish between a 750 and an 800 on any single test. Period.

stay away from CC, it's time consuming!

I wouldve joined a lot of lot of more clubs I mean I got into my ed school but still

-Colleges look at your 10/11 grades the most. Do your best during these years! They really don't look at your Freshman year.

-Get involved in clubs/EC's ASAP! Seriously, don't put it off until your Junior year!

-Start looking at the college process early on and get to know what the SAT, ACT, etc. are about. Start taking SATs/ACTs during the beginning of your Junior year, and be sure to study for them!

-Take the PSAT seriously and STUDY for it, even though it's just a "practice" test..

-Find this website ASAP! There's a WEALTH of information here that's INCREDIBLY useful!

Don't spend all your time on CC! JK. It's helpful.

I have to say PE in early years...I have to do two years of PE...in one year :0( oops

do not PROCRASTINATE!!! pursue ur passion(whether it requires u to get into bunch of clubs or not!) But be sure to have sth in ur application that will show that u've been upto that for the last 3 to 4 yrs!

yeah I wish that I wouldn't have had procrastinated because now I don't even know if im going to get accepted into a state school...SDSU..so >.<

Play a sport. You stay healthy and keep your stress down.

very true...also, really get to know your classmates, make GOOD friends because in times off stress they'll really be there for you to help you through it... I wouldn't have been able to make it through my highschool years without my friends!

When taking the hardest courses, take hard ones that you're good at, i.e. I would've taken AP Bio instead of AP Chem because I would've gotten an A in the former instead of the C I got in the latter.

I support u completely! Do not go w/ the names! Even if it's AP u might want to reconsider if it's not ur subject and that u've the perfect match which although is an honors level course! So, that'll be a tough decision but do reconsider! Sports definitely helps out as long as ur not targeting perfect GPA (which most out here do! I myself do, but I'll definitely play soccer next season) So, try to balance out everything! (Don't TRY to be a perfectionist if u AREN'T from the beginning! Some might be able to do so, but i guess that's not a good thing to do!) Sports give a break from monotonous lifestyle and be sure NOt just to be a part of the team but actually leading it! whte'er u do, GIVE 105% (not necessary that u've to be a perfectionist!)
