Advice You Wish You Had Known In High School

Don't write an angsty blog entry and get called down to the counselor's office on a suicide watch because some parents saw it and got scared.

I think that's probably all I'd re-do. Haha, no regrets.

^^^or make your blog entries private or friends-only.

Haha. That's hilarious. (Has happened at my school, too)

I would have applied for more scholarships, especially the Gates-Millenium. I would not have worried about EC's as much and would've focused more on test prep.

Don't let your parents choose what foreign language you take.

Damn, German would've been so cool =(

^ I agree.
I didn't want to take Spanish even though my parents told me it was so useful in America and they wished they could have learned it. I wanted to take French because I want to work in international fashion but now I'm stuck in Spanish and it's my least favorite class.

Join speech and debate earlier than I did.
Leave more room in my schedule for electives, such as art and journalism.
Make friends that are interested in the same things I am.
Participate in more art contests, both locally and regionally.

My regrets have to do more with my social life and maximizing what I really got out of my learning experience than getting into college. I wish I had uncovered my non-academic potential earlier than I did --I would have enjoyed high school a lot more than I did.

Sleep is good.

Sleep is V~E~R~Y goooooooooooood.

This is what I wish I would have known

Have fun, because not everyone has more fun in college - which can EASILY suck.

Spend your summers wisely, don't waste them away so you can relax.

You can have fun traveling, at camp, in an internship, or whatever and then you can get experience as well as put it on your app.

so true. everyone told me spanish would be so much more usefull. I absolutely hate it and almost failed. I'm sure any other language would have been better.

take ap classes, instead of full ib program.

Don't take electives. I only took one, but I could have substituted a better class in place of it. Some people at my school took way too many early on though, and are paying for it now by having to take Spanish instead of harder classes.

Don't take anyone's advice by heart...because many times, it's your own instincts that make the best decisions. I would go to tons of people for advice on everything, but in the end I followed my own advice and ended up doing just right =). You should take good advice from people but...think about it first.

Do not trust any computer brand other than Apple and Sony.

I beg to differ. Hewlett-Packard has been very good to me.

HP also has no commitment to customer service. HP HAS no customer service. I called about a broken printer and I was transferred to 6 differnet departments, talked to 6 different people, was on hold for about an hour in total, and all 6 people had 1 thing in common: they were uncooperative, unhelpful, and NONE OF THEM KNEW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. And I called 4-5 different times OVER THE SPAN OF A MONTH and had the same experience. I called a sixth time and was on hold for 10 minutes before I gave up and decided to find some other way to get printing from 2 printers to 2 desktops and a laptop.

Compare this to Apple's customer service line: I was never on hold for more than 5 minutes, one phone call got the issue I called about resolved, and the agents were very helpful to me and were generally there to please me and HELP me. There was a snafu where I put in an order and cancelled it, and the charge to my mom's credit card didn't get cancelled, and I called the card company and I was told Apple had to call them directly, so I called Apple to tell them to call the card company. Well I called Apple, usual 2 minute hold before the 1st agent answers, I tell him my problem, he puts me on hold for 5 minutes, speaks to the credit card company, and bam! issue resolved. This took a total of 12-15 minutes. Apple also estimated a ship date of january 2nd when I placed my order, well it was shipped an hour after I placed my order. Now THAT'S customer service.

I can't trust any brand that has no commitment to customer service.

Apple, however, has been extremely helpful. And unlike HP's, they actually speak proper English, and keep you informed. And they get **** done promptly and effectively unlike HP's CSRs from some country in Asia. AND they don't rip you off on shipping...$27 to overnight a macbook pro?!!?!?! Exactly.

Back up all of your work.

It took me longer to write that post than for Apple to resolve every single issue I called about.
