Senior year just gets better and better.... I recently got accepted to Cornell, which obviously I'm very excited about, but unfortunately with no financial aid. I'm in the same financial situation at most of the other more "prestigious" schools I applied to minus a few thousand merit at some and full tuition at both a decent instate school and a decent oos school. My parents would obviously have no qualms with me attending a cheaper school, but they're willing to dish out the money if I think it's truly worth it. I'll be pretty much debt free at graduation either way, although I'd have a lot less financial wiggle room at Cornell. As of now, I'm thinking of doing either pre-law or going into biological scientific research/grad school. I love Cornell's atmosphere and could really see myself being happy there, but is it worth the full ticket price? Does the Ivy reputation and the boost it offers when applying to law/grad school really pay off?

It definitely gives you a step up when employers see you graduated from and Ivy and went on to a prestigious grad/law school. Cornell provides amazing opportunities. Since you can afford any school, I would choose the one that best suits your major and has the best curriculum surrounding your interests. Next is atmosphere and location. Another factor is the “wiggle room”. Are you ok with going w/out a couple things to accomodate your parents’ contribution? You are still in a very good situation with many options. Research is always helpful. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the reply and the advice! I’d definitely be okay with making a couple of small sacrifices after the amazing generosity/support of my parents. I realize now especially that I really don’t deserve them :)) Plus, campus jobs are always open right? I’ll definitely be researching more into the programs I’m interested in to make sure I don’t just have a case of Ivy-itis hahaa, but I think I’ll have to hold off a definite decision until after visiting the campus again.
