<p>So i was deferred from fordham and I'm really disappointed. I was wondering what i could do to help me getting accepted except a new teacher rec and my mid quarter grades? Should I ask my guidance counselor to call on my behalf?
And does anyone know the rate of applicants that get deferred? Do they defer everyone pretty much who doesn't get accepted?</p>

<p>I was deferred as well, and I am totally disappointed-both my mother and my grandfather are alums. My mother called the Admissions Office (after being told to call by someone she knew at Fordham) and he basically said “submit more scores (SAT or ACT) if you have them, submit grades” but that they “had concerns” that I was “not academically where others were” thus, deferred. I don’t know whether I should just give up-I was accepted at a couple of other good schools under RD.</p>
<p>Deferred students do get in from the RD pool. Submit new scores if you have them, and submit new grades from this semester and work really hard. Legacy is not a big factor at Fordham.</p>
<p>The applicant pool is increasingly selective at Fordham. </p>
<p>Commit to them you will attend if selected. </p>
<p>But they must be fair and if the pool is extraordinary, its hard for them to say yes to someone with more moderate stats and no to someone with stellar stats. </p>
<p>Fordham’s yield is low because a lot of students accepted also get into Ivy schools and uber competitive LAC’s in the North East. So spots DO open up later on. Depends on what the RD pool looks like and who falls off the log for a higher ranked school.</p>
<p>In the meantime, work hard and also start IMMEDIATELY on Plan B schools. Pick schools that are clear match and safety schools for YOUR stats and schools you can visualize yourself being happy and thriving. </p>
<p>Never apply to a school where you cannot visualize yourself doing well and being happy.</p>

<p>What are your stats? D2 was also deferred and kinda bummed, though does have several accepts in pocket</p>

<p>GPA-3.3 (i know its low, freshman year went awful which i explained in my app)
ACT-30
EC-good, tons of community service
RECS-great
essay-i thought it was really good </p>
<p>i thought my ACT would help my lower GPA but i suppose not 
and the only thing new i can send them is my senior grades which are great and another rec but i doubt that would help…</p>

<p>Yeah it was a small envelope… but it was a very nice letter, I must say.
It made me feel a little better.</p>
<p>As the parent of a Fordham grad who was deferred, I would strongly suggest that the STUDENT contact the admissions office regarding his or her deferral rather than the parent.</p>

When this happened to my daughter, SHE contacted the admissions office with an update of relevant items that helped her cause (new grades, another rec., EC info., things she forgot to mention in her app.). She also told them that she would enroll if accepted. Hope this helps.</p>
