Hi
I am currently a sophmore in high school that wants to work as a ib associate at a bb firm. I plan on going to hofstra and getting a cpa in 4 years. I then want to get a mba at a top school like columbia, nyu, cornell. If i get a 3.6 in accounting with strong ECs and strong gmat is that good enough to get into CBS with no work experiance? Is accounting a good major for ib. What mba should i get. How is the job market for ivy mbas? Is a cpa useful?

No. You almost certainly cannot go to business school with no work experience. Even if you do get admitted somehow, you shouldn’t go, because who’s going to hire you?

I get the feeling that you don’t really understand what’s going on here. An MBA is not a technical degree; it does not automatically qualify you for any specific job. It makes zero sense to consider getting an MBA without work experience.

To build on what the person before me said, I’ve spoken with several professionals and they all say the same thing; an MBA without work experience looks bad on a resume.

Additionally, accounting and investment banking don’t mix, investment banks want finance guys. Having said that accounting is a great way to later get into investment banking. Here’s an idea (its similar to what I’m doing) you can get a bachelor’s in accounting and work as an accountant for a couple years to get some connections, work experience, and money. After about three years of that you can go get your MBA with a focus in finance and later get your CFA LVL 1 and at that point you’ll be a good candidate for investment banks, it takes a while but it almost guarantees you a spot at investment banks.
