Hey everyone. I'm new on this site.

I graduated from high school in 2010. I went to UCR for the 2010-2011 school year but then went to my local community college over the last two years since I felt that it would be better for me to live and study at home, plus I and my family wanted to save money.

Anyway, here's my situation--this semester wasn't exactly the best one for me. In this one Writing class I'm currently getting a C (partly due to my mistakes, partly due to the contents of the class) and there is no chance at all for me to raise it to a B. I already withdrew from this class once before. I was told that my community college allows one to take a class three times--therefore, I have two choices--get a C in this class and hurt my GPA a lot, possibly to the extent that I won't ever be able to raise it to the amount that I want, or purposely fail this class and study more and be more careful and (hopefully) get a B the next time I take this class. I also want to point out that I am taking this one other class on a pass-no pass basis (instead of a letter grade) and I might not pass this class this semester either. Therefore, I'm not sure if seeing one fail vs. two fails for a particular semester would make that much of a difference.

My current community college GPA right now is about a 3.2 or 3.25. I live in Southern California, so I seriously hope to transfer to UCI with the TAG agreement in the future. I'm very disappointed that UCI raised its TAG from 3.0 to 3.4 within a period of 3 years or so. If I'll get a C in writing I seriously doubt that I'll ever be able to get a 3.4 GPA, since I'm not the type of student who is capable of getting As in all or most of his classes. I'm able to get As in some subjects but I also get a lot of Bs. Getting a C in writing would make my GPA fall by a good amount. If I purposely fail this class and then retake it, my GPA would not be affected if I'll get a B the next time around but I'll have a failing grade on my transcript. However, this might allow me to barely be able to raise my GPA to a 3.4 in the next year or two before UCI probably raises their TAG GPA again to 3.5 or 3.6. I heard that UCI doesn't care about failing grades on the transcript for TAG if one retakes them later on, but other colleges might care.

Also, what would be my odds of getting into UCI with a 3.2 community college GPA? What about Cal Poly Pomona?
