Advice!?

Wow, this is is my first time posting on here, but I have a bit of a dilemma. I just recently took my SATs right? Mind you that this is the second time taking it, and I am HIGHLY HIGHLY embarrassed with my score.I’ll just put myself out there, 1st time I took it in June, I received a 1300 flat. “Ahhh No biggie, I’ll do better next time.” OCT 3rd comes around, and I received my scores back only to find out that I only improved by 100 points, with a 1400 flat. THIS is absolutely HORRIBLE. Especially since I want to attend a really excellent private IVY leagues (who doesn’t obviously).

Just a little bit of academic background, I’m ranked 3 (out of 227) in my class, straight A student with a UW GPA of 3.93. and a Weighted of 4.6, involved in various EC’s such as Job and varsity sports along with balancing time to ACE my classes (for the most part). Favorite subject is math, and last year I doubled up, taking pre-calculus and AP Statistics at the same time (considered psychotic in my school). Aced both, and passed the Stats exam (also uncommon in my school). I’ve taken honors/AP courses most of my high school career. I taken 4 AP/Honors course my junior year, and Im taking 4 my senior year (6 AP’s total by graduation). I’ve passed all three of my AP test thus far (which is a collegeboard oriented test). I don’t necessarily understand why I scored so poorly on the SATs. I put SOME time aside to study and you would think I’d at least score above average with natural ability. Anyhow, given all of this…

I’m literally taking the ACT’s tomorrow, and I’m hoping to kill it. but I’m so disappointed. I took the June and OCT SATs. Should I retake them in either Nov (2 weeks from now), or December (over 1 month from now)? Will that be to late to Ivy’s (Stanford, Yale, MIT, etc.)?? Should I even bother at all and just except the mediocrity? I need help asap! and if so, I WILL study my a$$ off this next month for a significantly better score cause I definitely know I can. I would absolutely love ALL and ANY advice right now.

I’m encouraging positive feedback but hey, be honest as well. Thank you!

Score is obviously low for the colleges you mention and, without a better SAT or ACT you likely have a very low chance for admission to the colleges you mention even if you are an undereprsented minority. As to taking ACT or another SAT be aware that MIT, Yale, all other ivies, accept through the Jan SAT test for regular admission, Stanford through the Dec SAT and ACT tests. You do not mention SAT subject tests but if you are going to apply to the colleges you mention, you need two of those also (math and a science are required by MIT, Stanford and Yale do not require subject tests but highly recommend two).

Assuming out of 2400, you’ll almost certainly get rejected from Ivies or top-tier schools with a 1400 SAT.

You’re a straight-A student so you should have the capability to score well. I would start by reading up on strategies for the SAT, and taking a few practice tests to familiarize yourself with the content, format, and pacing.

Stanford and MIT are not part of the Ivy League. I would use better grammar, i.e. “Will that be too late for the Ivies?” or something along those lines. That’s one way you can improve your score right there.

Are you a senior?? It is entirely too late in the game to be focusing on schools from which your current scores disqualify you. Make a list of schools that will accept you with the stats you HAVE, not the ones you WISH you had. Or you might find yourself with a bunch of rejections and nowhere to go in May.

^I would also throw in test-optional schools to the list.

Yeah, you guys have great points, I respect that, I’m hoping I did well on the ACTS, i feel confident. Given my SAT, Im set to taking sat 2 tests in math 1 and biology M (possibly). @MITer94 sorry for the bad grammar (written late at night), but I think I need one more shot at it, you’re saying it’s ideal to take the DEC SAT?

@bodangles yes I’m a senior. I really don’t want that one score to determine my acceptance (I recently became a finalist for QB not to mention), but I’M thinking that I’ll just study my a$$ off for the Dec one. What do you think? (Sorry for all possible bad grammar, once again this is done off of a dysfunctional phone).
