quick question..

i'm scheduled to take general bio, chem, expos, and calc I for the fall semester

however, i managed to get a 4 on the ap calc ab exam, which would make me exempt from calc I and put me in calc II. Should i stick to calc I or calc II, given my other classes?

thanks

That's pretty much my first semester schedule from last year. I had gotten a 4 on the exam as well, but I decided to take Calc I over again (I was premed.. I had my reasons). Needless to say, it was a very easy 4 credit class for me and I was happy with my A :D . Calc II at Rutgers is pretty difficult and I would take Calc I so that you can concentrate on Gen. Chem and Gen Bio. It will be very difficult to do well in all of those classes WHILE having to worry about Expos (essays, essays, essays)

well yeah im probably going pre-med as well...

but see the thing is, second semester: gen bio II, chem II, expos II, and calc II?

wouldn't that be hectic?

o and if i'm going pre-med or pre-dental, is it recommended that i take calc I over? (for the combined programs or in general?)

Take Calc 1. Calc 2 is way harder. Especially since you have already taken Calc 1, use the class to get used to the pace and style of real college math. The other side of this is that if you take calc 2 first semester and want to continue with calc then it isn't so bad. Calc 3(multivariable) was easier for me than any other calc(1-5). Literally the first half of the class is a joke, filled with adding and multiplying simple numbers.

Expos 1 isn't as hard as everyone makes it out to be. I'm not great at writing and would always wait until 3-4 hours before class to write my essays, yet I still got a good grade.

Your schedule shouldn't be too bad. Very very possible to get good grades in all of the classes as they're big and therefore(in theory) more A's are given out. Time management is key. If you ever feel overwhelmed, go find some engineers and compare schedules, you'll feel a lot better.

yeah i understand..

but i feel like i would be wasting time and money

oh and another thing..

as a pre-med student..should i take calc 135 or 151?

i mean, that ap exam exempts me from 151, but i THINK that i signed up for 135...

I took 135. 151 is usually for engineering or physics majors.

As for calc II you can take 136 or 138.

does ap credit only exempt you from 151? is that how it goes?

you need bc credit for Calc II aka a 4 or a 5 on the BC test.

If you want to ever take Calc III, you need to take 151-152. Just something to remember.

You can also take the final exam from 152 to take Calc III, but that's a pain.

lol no way, i'm just fulfilling the requirement of a year's worth of calc (nothing after calc II)

you do realize only harvard medical school requires a year of calc?

....

wait so you mean to tell me that i can just use my ap credit for calc and i'd be done with the math requirement for med school?

and whats your AIM sn btw?

ok yeah disregard the last post...so you would recommend calc 135 over 151?

yeah, I took 135 and it was fine.

Like I said, take 135, get the A and it will boost your science gpa and overall as well. Plus it will lighten up the time spent studying for bio/chem.

thats weird..they won't let me switch into 135?

They should let you switch in. I just checked the schedule of classes and there are loads of open 135 sections. Who isn't letting you switch in?

i know this has nothing to do with calc., but what is intro to experimentation and when should i take it? (1st semester schedule: calc 135, gen bio, gen chem, expos)

its chem lab.. decide if you want to take it first semester or 2nd (i took it 2nd)

a lot of people are discouraging me from taking bio and chem together...any advice?
