not knowing what you wanna do really makes it harder to pick a school. Anyone have any suggestions as to which schools I should remove/add or anything else? Does it seem possible for me to get into a fair number of these schools as well? Thanks

Well, what other characteristics are you looking for–large/medium/small student body? Preppy/artsy/pre-professional/intellectual?

If all else fails, you can start eliminating by campus architecture.

How much money do you and your parents have available to pay for this? Will you need financial aid? Sit your parents down and make them get really honest about this before you go any further. They may have a plan, and they may not. They may be absolutely clueless about the whole process (have them look at the Financial Aid and Parents Forums in that case). Money may ultimately prove to be the determining factor in where you will study so you need to know that early on in the process.

Have you actually visited any of these places yet to see what it feels like to walk around the campus? You could try that with any of them, and your reaction to the environment will tell you something about what you should look for.

I want a decent amount of students, but overall I want to go to the best school where I can get accepted that also gives me a decent amount of money.

moneywise- Were counting on financial aid a lot. I havent visited any of those places, but I plan on only really visiting the schools I get into. I find it pointless to visit a school Ill get rejected from anyway.

A lot of your schools are incredibly different… if you’re a senior, just try to find another criteria to narrow it down a bit, but if you’re not… do so visiting to find out what you like and don’t like.
But just to get you started, if you want a decent amount of students, Amherst is sub-2000. VERY small school.

If you are “counting on financial aid a lot” you really had better go read everything on the Financial Aid Forum!

I do think you ought to visit one or two schools. These don’t even have to be ones that are currently on your list, just whatever it is easy for you to get to. There are many, many different campuses within a one or two hour driving distance from just about any point in the state of New Jersey. You may walk onto the campus of BIG U, and realize that a student body of 20,000 is just plain too much for you to handle, no matter how cheap another U of that size would ever work out to be. You may check out SMALL C, and realize that 2,000 students just isn’t enough to make you feel at home. This kind of information will really help you focus your list.
