Advice?

hey all, just asking for some advice. i’ve been out of high school for a year working. i’ve decided that i do want to go back to school. my top choice is st. john’s md. My high school grades and scores were not impressive (3.2GPA, 1110 Old SAT). I got into a couple of my second choice schools, but I’m also considering going to community college for year and then re-applying to ST. John’s. My question is, if I maintained high grades in the most challenging classes offered at community college would my chances of getting into ST. John’s improve?

I doubt it. The fact that you've been working for a year actually might boost you since St. Johns looks at more than stats. Character, fit all are important to that college, which knows that most students would run like heck away from a curriculum based on the great books.

Also, St. Johns doesn't accept transfer credits, so if you went to a CC or any other college first, none of those credits would transfer.

Anyway, my advice is to give St. Johns your best shot now.

Best of luck!

i'm sorry lol i should have...been more clear. I want to re-apply because they require two letters of recommendation and I only have one. They won't consider my application at this point. so i more or less got rejected. i just wasn't sure if going back getting the letters and improving my grades would make a difference.

Oops that is too bad to get rejected based upon a technicality. It goes without saying to meet all application criteria. St. John's really values the application. You should be sure you application essays are stellar and really show your strengths and why you want to be there. This can make up for your grades and SAT. Since they have rolling admission and promise to give a reply I don't know why they won't consider your application for Spring Semester.

At this point, you might want to express your desire to go to St. Johns by 1) fufilling the required docs for application 2) discussing your situation with one of the AO's.

If they reject you now, they'd want to see some substantial committment or accomplishment that would change their mind, but I don't see how just going to CC for a year would do this.
