Advice

Hey prospective Barnard women(/parents/friends/etc.),

I am an incoming first year at Barnard, and I thought I’d open up a thread to answer your questions about applying to Barnard (e.g. interviewing, acceptance, etc.).

A little about my experience:
-Accepted ED
-Interviewed on campus
-Came from a large/competitive public high school

Ask away! Barnard alumnae/parents/current students PLEASE feel free to chime in.

Please note, this is NOT a chance thread. Ergo I will NOT assess your chances.

Yay! Thank you for doing this
So this is kind of a mundane question but I couldn’t find it on the Barnard website- does the notification letter (for ED) come in the mail or do you get an email or both?

Hi Jaden. If you’re talking about the notification that Barnard has received your application, last year I received an email from the Common App confirming that I had submitted an application and, if I remember correctly, an email from Barnard shortly thereafter (i.e. a couple days maybe?). After about two weeks, they sent a code with which we could track our applications. I think they might have mailed it to me as well, but I ignored it because it had the same information as the email. I’m told they’ll notify you if they’re missing something from your file, but I’m not sure how because I did not face this problem.

If you’re talking about the acceptance decision, domestic students will receive that in the mail around December 15th, and international students will receive their decisions via email.

I received my ED acceptance letter on December 16, and I live in NJ (weird, I don’t know). Soo… don’t freak out if it doesn’t come on the 15th, because I was so nervous that day I practically crashed my car.

It’ll be in a big priority mail envelope and you’ll have a fun time prying it out of your mailbox.
