i'm a current Binghamton University student, and my dream is working in financial sector.More precisely, investment banking....here's my situation, the SOM school in my Uinversity has a good reputation , but it isn't a target school.do i get shot breaking in IB??.please help....i also thinking transfer to either NYU or Chicago after my freshman year.any other schools recommend?..

transferring is going to be your best option if you want to do IB. if you stay, you may want to look at some MM banks.

it doesn’t matter where you go, and as long as your grades are OK that doesn’t matter so much.

all you have to do is make hundreds or thousands of phone calls and network very aggressively. This of course assumes you actually know your stuff and have excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Your best bet will be to transfer to a semi or target school. While networking is definitely helpful, school definitely matters. Semi and target schools get the recruiters coming to campus, have more events and have more alumni working for those firms that you can contact.

If, however, you are unable to transfer, you will want to look into your school’s database and find some alumni in IB and network with them. Additionally, you will want to land relevant internships as soon as possible in finance (even if not in IB- something analytically demanding) to help build your work experience and separate yourself from other students applying.

IBanker

thanks, guys…it looks like i should transfer… i better step up to prepare everything…i would like to ask one more question…it would be very hard for me to get into ivy league, so i 'm thinking NYU, Chicago Northwest…any more schools??? and i also wondering how many school are allowed to apply at one time??

This topic has been addressed before numerous times in different forums. We are here to help, but we’d prefer that you help yourself first and show some kind of initiative in the most elementary of questions.

Do you really think you are suited in a cut throat field ?

i think you are right, there is nothing impossible…i will give it a go…

I would add Cornell and Duke. You can apply to as many schools as you want to. You may also want to look into CUNY Baruch in case you aren’t able to get into the top tier schools. In terms of academics it’s more of a step sideways, but being in NYC has its advantages. Baruch honors grads are heavily recruited and all of my friends who attend have solid internships.

i’m from NYC and i got accepted from Baruch ,but my adviser tole me binghamton is better than baruch…
