Advise for an international student!

Hi!
I am an Indian studying in the CBSE curriculum but residing in Bahrain(Middle East). I got a 2040 on the SAT(which i plan to retake in december).Indiana University is my first choice and i really want to go. However,i shifted countries in the 11th grade and missed many classes and stuff so i did badly in 11th grade.
But my 9th and 10th grades are excellent and i got 92% in the external board of education exam. I have improved a lot in my 12th grade 1st term and i hope to improve further in my 2nd term.
I have decent ECs and good letters of recommendations. I have work experience as well as social service.I have lived in 3 different countries and know 5 languages. So i am writing the optional essay about my diverse experiences. I will also send in a supplementary essay explaining my poor performance in the 11th.
Do u think i still have a shot at IU-Bloomington?
btw i plan on majoring in finance.

And also i am applying in december because that’s when i am taking the TOEFL and cant apply before that
is that a bit too late?

You have a very good chance of getting in.

^Depending on just how bad your junior year was.

Well,my junior year was pretty bad. I messed up math :frowning:
But I have had a huge upward trend. I got 92% in my external board exam(which is difficult to get). I have a 1370/1600 SAT which is higher than the average for IUB. Plus i have some work experience,ECs and 2 good recommendation letters.
So do you think i will get in? btw i applied about 3 weeks back,so when can i expect a decision?
Also does applying from Bahrain help?(since it’s a relatively unknown and underrepresented country)

You will have your decision soon, perhaps within 1 or 2 weeks. I predict that you will be admitted. Best of luck.

Another thing is that I already got accepted into University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign and I am really confused if I should go there or Indiana. Which one do you think I should go to for finance?

For finance, Indiana hands down.

I got in with around 1800’s so you should be fine ~ i don’t need to take TOEFL. i have bad grade on 9th grade and 10th grade. both got 3.0 and 3.1 GPA, but I got 3.6 in Junior year. So is kinda risky for your GPA, but i think you have a very good shot.

@wwwwretch So are you planning to enroll at IU?
I am hoping that they don’t give too much importance to my grade 11 marks. Many colleges in america(like UIUC) don’t even require grade 9 and grade 11 marks for CBSE students. In my education system, the grade 10 and grade 12 external board exams are what matter the most. So my fingers are crossed.
And i also submitted all the optional materials like essay, resume, recommendation letters to improve my chances
Anyway thank you all for your responses. I will let you know what happens :)

I got accepted!

^^^Congrats!

Thank You
still confused about where to enroll though
and sadly, it’s not possible for me to visit either school :frowning:
any opinion regarding uiuc vs indiana for finance?

Are you a Kelley direct admit?

No :frowning:
I wasnt aware of the 1st november deadline
i probably would have gotten in since i have a 1370 SAT and am in the top 10%

I’m not aware of a Nov 1 deadline for DAs. Maybe things have changed, but I think the 11/1st deadline is for consideration for the automatic scholarships. If you met all of the criteria for Kelley DA’s, you will get in.

I don’t think you are notified at exactly the same time of your general IU admission.

Regarding your question of IU v. UIUC, if you are a direct admit to Kelley, I think Kelley is the wiser choice.

Oh I am sorry
I misread the IU website!

Well, that’s good news! Hoping someone will come along and let you know how long you have to wait to hear from Kelley.

Do you know anything about schedules and stuff?
I am completely lost regarding that. In my education system, all the classes were fixed and we really had no choice of choosing our courses. So I dont know which classes to take to help me get into Kelley just in case I am not a DA. And I also dont understand what this grade distribution is
If u can help me please see the other thread that I posted
Thank You

My son has already graduated, so I’m not the best person to give current scheduling advice.

May I suggest that you not worry about what classes you are going to take until you find out about your DA status? You could waste a lot of energy & time stressing over something that you don’t need to worry about at all. I think you’ll probably get confirmation from Kelley in the next 2 weeks. If you met the 3 requirements, you’re in.
