“but I’m a northeast girl at heart, living an hour from both New York and Philadelphia. The south might be a big culture shock for me, but my mind is open.”

lol…a culture shock in what way? What culture would you find shocking? Warm weather? Friendly people? Beautiful schools?
I’m a California girl at heart…would I find the NE a big culture shock?
I’m glad that you’re mind is open, because there’s nothing shocking about the south.
I’m wondering what my son will think of Ole Miss (we live outside DC). There may be some culture shock, but I don’t know that it’s a bad thing. I moved from the hills of East Tennessee to Brooklyn, and loved it.
@jnkam24 i recommend that you look into the Fisher College of business as well as the honors and scholars programs at the Ohio State University. Its business school is excellent, ranked highly, and you will be assured large merit aid with your SAT score as long as your gpa is in the top 40% of your class. A 1420 SAT (math & reading) would qualify you for the national buckeye scholarship of $12,000 plus you may qualify for an additonal $6,000 maximus award. OSU has gotten more competitive in recent years and is currently ranked higer (54) than several of the schools you are considering on your list. Ohio State is in Columbus, the capitol, so you can have the benefits of a city nearby. The campus is about 10 minutes from downtown. Coming from NJ, Ohio State will not be as big a culture shock as Alabama, and within the past 5 years the number of outofstate students has increases a lot, especially from the New York and New Jersey area. And the school has a lot of spirit with the national champ football team and other great division 1 sports teams. My son is attending there this Fall and he can’t wait!

I don’t think it will be a big “culture shock” but Ole Miss would be a different experience. It does have a more “southern flavor” than some of the other SEC schools.
When people worry about “culture shock”, I wonder if they travel much outside their small region, much less cross-country or abroad. I find things “different” when I travel to the the Pacific NW, I find things different when I travel to New Mexico, I find things different when I travel to the SE or NE, I find things different when I’m outside the country…but do I find these “different things” shocking? Shocking? lol…uh, no.
I am amused that in the South there seems to be a pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, Rite-aid, etc), a bank and a pet clinic on nearly every corner. As a Calif girl, we only had one pet clinic that served a wide area. Here, in the south, I can walk to several pet clinics from my own home.
