advise me please on CR

I am taking SAT on dec 1st.
I'm in 550-610 range now. I really struggle with passages from novels but perform relatively well on scientific passages. What novels may be helpful for me in this short time period?

I really hope for over 700 score in CR. I have enough motivation and time to take 4-5 practice tests a week (math omitted). I'm also learning words from DH (finished with first volume)

thanks

Bump…

The reason you do so well on Objective passages but fall short on literary ones is the inability to comprehend the critical info from em…

I was similar to you in that respect until I scored 700 this year in May SAT on CR section. My trick was that I first read the questions and marked the lines from which they come. Then, I went to reading the passage (reading really really fast) … and stopping at the line where I’ve marked…

Now, go back to that question… read one line before and after it… that is it… you must get the answer… IN ADDITION, YOU MUST KNOW SOME BASICS OF LITERATURE SUCH AS LITERARY DEVICES…

Not novels . . . short stories! Classic American short stories, from the 19th & earlier 20th centuries: Edgar Allen Poe, Stephen Crane, Ambrose Bierce, Jack London, Bret Harte. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding a collection like this at your library. Each of these authors has his own writing styles - read one story by each of them. Look up and learn every word you don’t know. My personal favorite: The Outcasts of Poker Flat, by Bret Harte. When you get to the point where you can read that without having to look up any words, you’re well on your way!

Thanks cor support
Looking through literary devices was really helpful. I’start reading today. Getting short stories is no problem. Thanks a lot. Guys

Read actual magazine articles to increase your vocabulary and underline key information as you read passages.
