Advise needed from undergrads or professors: Possibility of unrelated double majors

Hello,
Is it possible to double major in Literature and Physics with a minor in Mathematics at St Lawrence? If yes, how practical/doable is it in terms of efforts and time-commitment it entails? I know it depends on the individual, but in general, do you think someone can take the above mentioned courses and do well in all three?

Anything is possible but check with each school…sheesh

What you should do is layout the coursework required to double major in those two fields. You can search for the courses at any college online, but you may or may not be able to see for certain that all the classes will be available each semester that you need them, so you may end up with an add’l semester or two of school in order to get two whole majors. Once you’ve done this piece of homework, then you can ask a specific person at each college of the likelihood of this being doable in 8 semesters or four years.

I guess the question is, what do you want to do with such different majors? Do you just love both and don’t want to commit to major in just one? Certainly at a liberal arts college like St. Lawrence you will see that there are many well rounded students in a similar bucket. Are you doing it just to say you have two distinct majors? If that is the case, it may be misguided. You are likely to get just as far with your next goal (a job, grad school, enlightenment) by focusing on one major and one or two minors, unless you can do all within 8 semesters.

If cost or time is not an issue, do what you want, but you may find that after 8 semesters you are looking at the undergrads around you and wishing you were in grad school or working full time with benefits.
