Advise on the Mt. Sinai Program

I have a few questions that I could really use some help with.

First off: would a major in Communication Sciences & Disorders be competitive? Although it has the word 'sciences' in it, I belive it's a social science major. In it, I'd learn how to effectively communicate with people and learn about psychology a little.

Second off: would I kill my chance if I went to a state school over a highly-ranked private school? I was wondering if this program regards rankings highly or not.

Thanks.

How does this have anything to do with Mount Sinai? Are you wanting to apply to the HuMed program? If so, a social sciences major is acceptable, but I’ve heard anecdotally that there’s a disproportionate of people in the HuMed program come from ivies or ivy-caliber schools. I think there’s somebody on here that goes to Sinai so maybe they can confirm or deny this. That said, don’t base where you go to school completely off of whether or not it will make you competitive for the HuMed program, because what if you end up at an ivy even though you didn’t like it, and then don’t get into the HuMed program (being at an ivy certainly will not guarantee you acceptance)? You won’t have an acceptance into the program, you’ll be unhappy, and you be out a LOT of money (even if you transfer out somewhere cheaper).

Now, if you’re asking about Mount Sinai in general…then here’s my answer:
Major doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy with it, where you went to undergrad will only matter minimally so go where you’re happiest.

I doubt major matters that much as long as it isn’t science.

Yea Mt. Sinai has this thing for Ivy League applicants. You’re probably at a disadvantage if you aren’t one. But don’t decide not to apply just because of that though.
