Hello,

I am a biology major at the University of Guam (UOG) and I will be a sophomore in August 2011. I want to transfer to Duke University (my #1 choice) by 2012 Fall. I've already made several mistakes such as not spending time studying for the SAT during high school, getting a 2.9 in my first semester of college, and just not planning ahead overall. I don't want to make anymore mistakes and risk my dream of becoming a neurologist. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get me back on track, but the problem is: I don't really know what to do.

Here are some information about me.
High school GPA: 4.23
High school rank: 12/400
SAT: 1430
College GPA: 3.48 (Fall & Summer 2010: 3.1 Spring 2011: 4.0)

In high school, I was the National Honor Society (NHS) President
I was my high school's scholar-athlete of the year
I won the 2010 Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for Guam
I participated in the 2010 NIDDK/Summer Internship Program and presented at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
I was accepted in Western Washington, but couldn't go.

I run track and field.
I am going to represent Guam in the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Korea and the South Pacific Games in New Caledonia.

So, should I retake the SAT and try to transfer out?
Will I stand a chance to get in Duke?
Should I just stay in UOG, do my best here, and try to do well in the MCATs?

Thanks. (:

your chance to duke is slim to none. I suggest you stay there since it’s easier to get 4.0, but definitely study for your MCAT, do some research, then you’ll have a better shot.

Not trying to discourage you, but i think it would be a good choice if you decided to stay there. Because from what i have seen, colleges put much more weight on what & how you performed in college than what you did in high school, especially the top-ranked schools.
