Hello, Parents! I need your insights in choosing the right school.
I got into NU, Vandy, and Cornell. I want to pick out of NU and Vandy (Arts and Science). Both cost the same.

My passion has been primarily science/math and I CONSIDER doing PhD in physics. YET, I am also interested in and want to explore, in college, many different areas including psycology, social justice, and even economy/business a little. I forecast that my intersets will probably change.

I am Asian male (US citizen) and serious about academics but also enjoy socializing and sports, and music. Have lived in big cities most of my life. Any advice, pls?

Have you visited any of these schools? Nashville and Chicago are what you’re looking for in terms of location and you can get a great education at any of the three. It does seem as if Cornell might be more renowned in your primary fields of interest, though?

I’ll admit my Cornell bias right up front, but you sound like a Cornellian. Chicago weather will be equal or worse than Ithaca’s weather. I don’t know enough about Vandy. I’m just sold on the “any person, any study” theme of Cornell, and the energy on that campus is amazing.

I agree that Cornell is by far the strongest choice for your academic interests. But if location is more important, then go ahead and pick your favorite location. (But we can’t help you figure that out!)

you really cannot go wrong w/any of the 3, but you are talking 3 quite different environments. If you haven’t visited, you should, as you will spend 4 years of your life there. Sometimes that’s all it takes. Within an hour of being on campus, my D knew UMich was the place for her, and did not feel that way about any other school she visited. BTW, congrats.

I disagree. Northwestern economics/management sciences and chemistry are ranked higher than Cornell. Northwestern also has a more renowned business school, in which selected undergrad students can take finance/managerial analytics courses through the undergrad certificate programs. A team of them just competed against many MBA/MS programs at the 2011 Rotman International Trading Competition and finished 4th out of 50 teams.

Thank you, all. I know many recommend Cornell for my interests. Yet, I cannot live in that campus for four years. Perhaps I can take two years, but not four.

Chose NU, in case you care to know.

Thanks again for advice and congratulatory remarks!
