Advise to select college and Major

My Son had applied to various colleges as International Students. He got admission in UWash in Physical Science. HIs first choice is Computer Science. What are the chances of his getting admission in Computer science in second year?

Moreover, he got admission in UCSD and UIUC in Mathematics. What is the possibility of getting into Computer Science in these colleges. How to go about choosing colleges out of this three?

He is also inn waitlisted in Purdue and Uni of Michigan which will come to know in June / July 2015. Is it worth to wait to get confirmation from these colleges?

Awaiting response from all of you.

regards
Prashant

Of the students who try to gain admission into the CS program at UWashington, most don’t - only 30% of them are admitted. However, there is a similar major that may work if you son doesn’t get into CS, check out the required courses

Compare your son’s test scores with the top 25% test scores at UWA: would he be at the top of that group (good odds), or in the middle (he has a shot)?
For reference, according to the CDS, he would have to be well above 700 in SAT Math, and 650-680+ In CR.

I don’t know what the odds are for math-> CS at either UIUC or UCSD. Both of these are better than Purdue so I’d only take the waitlist for UMich.
In any case, you need to choose one university and deposit by May 1st, including housing (and at large universities, the earlier the better wrt housing). If you accepted a place on the waitlist and get off the WL in June, you are allowed to tell that first university that you’ve decided to enroll elsewhere (you lose your deposit).

It’s difficult to transfer into engineering at UCSD, but not impossible. Like UW, UCSD has a Math:CS major which is similar (but not impacted). Check the official UCSD MathAdvising thread for more information on that.
