Advising Programs?

Hi im in the class of 2010...what are the advising programs like from a student's point of view? which are better if you are playing a fall sport, are any too overwhelming etc...

i second this question... i have no idea what program i should choose!

Can someone please explain what these advising programs are all about? I guess I had just assumed that we would be assigned a "host" advisor and that would be that. I didnt realize there were all these options. Will the class we pick with our advising selection be a first semester class in addition to the schedule we select at orientation? Im just a bit confused as to what exactly the advising programs are, compared to a "standard" host advisor.

yeah and also we don't get our AP scores back until AFTER we fill this out...so I can't pick an english course because if I place out of freshman english I do NOT want to take it.

person - if you get placed in freshmen english and your AP scores place you out of it, you dont HAVE to take it, but you still have the same advisor

i had "host" advising...all it means is that i have an advisor and an advising group, but we didnt take a class together

oh so you CAN drop the course...that's good to know, thanks!

I sooooo do not get this whole "advising program" thing..could someone explain it in a couple of words? Also what does "TA" stand for... being from overseas sucks...

TA means teaching assistant

How are current students' experiences with the advising programs? What program do you think is the best and how have the one that you have picked been? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Okay. so.

Perspectives and Explorations, I think, are advising programs that give you a faculty advisor, as well as the student advisors that are teaching your class through the Ex College.

I didn't relaly understnad it either and chose Perspectives, Hollywood Comedies. It turns out it was just that me and like 10 other kids were taking this class as if it were a regular Ex College class for credit, but it just so happened that the teachers were my student advisors, and the kids in my class had the same faculty advisor as I did.

My class ended up being at the same time as the University Chorale, though, so I dropped it in favor of Chorale and instead took classes that filled requirements.

Basically, host advising just gives you a faculty advisor, but the others mean you will take that class for credit.
