I just received an e-mail for an advisor appointment. What exactly goes on during this appointment? And where do I go? The advisor's office?

Azarap, in the olden days, incoming first-years picked their classes right before the beginning of classes, with the help of a faculty member advisor. Now students sign up for classes during summer orientation, so the first meeting with the advisor is usually less substantive. However, it’s a good time to introduce yourself to your advisor, maybe talk about your plans at UVA (possible majors, etc.), and go over your schedule with him or her, in case there’s something you might want to change. It’s also a good idea to know how to locate your advisor in case you run into any problems as the semester gets underway. You will meet with the same person in October to select your spring semester classes.

Most advisors meet with their advisees in their offices.

Thank you, Jingle! You are always of great help.

These adviser meetings are essentially useless. My adviser literally said, “You probably know more about this than I do.” Basically it’s just to check that you’re on the right track as far as meeting area requirements and such.

second above post… except they never checked my requirements, that was all up to me…
