Advisor Code

Does anyone know if it's possible to guess the advisor code on Telebears? I don't mind how long it'll take, but the problem is that I think telebears would time out after 10 minutes, requiring another login. And I feel like you'd need a lot of logins to guess the advisor code. Is there a way to keep logged into telebears indefinitely?

Or better yet, is there a good way to guess the advisor code? I don't want to talk to my advisor.

Well, it’s 4 digits, so 10000 possibilities. On average, so, you would need to try 5000 times, and at 3 seconds each, you’d need about 6 or 7 hours. (Of course, in the worst case, it’d go to 12 hours or so).

So probably, you’d be better going to the advisor. Not like you actually have to bring a real schedule, just write down whatever will get you through the fastest. And if you get an advisor that doesn’t care, that’s even better.

Telebears does not log out if you have been active, I believe. So as long as you click around before 10 minutes, you can stay in.

And I’m sure that there is some program that could be (or has been) created to do this. When we first got here and were living in an apartment (before the internet had been connected), my brother had a program that basically guessed wireless password of a tenant nearby. The program ran for like, 1 whole day, so Im sure this would be easier to create since its just numbers.

I would also like to know, if anyone knows, the legal implications of doing this.

I’m assuming there’d be some sort of lockout after a given number of attempts, though? Though a program wouldn’t be all that difficult to write, as long as there was no such lockout. Too bad no one’s going to volunteer their account to be tested…

Thanks for the responses guys, they were very helpful and fun to read.

you can just go to one advisor; after that, the amount of attempts needed narrows considerably.
